Mediterranean Meatballs

These metaballs can be prepared with lamb, beef or goat meat and served with a sweet sauce flavored with raisins, cinnamon and honey...

  • Servings: 6
Ingredients:
1½ lb
Ground Beef or Lamb

5
Onions Finely Chopped

2
Eggs

Salt & Pepper, to taste

1 slice
Bread Soaked In Water & Drained

½ cup
Oil

¼ cup
Raisins

½ cup
Water

1 Tbsp
Cinnamon

2 Tbsp
Honey

Directions:
In medium bowl mix together the meat, one chopped onion, eggs and bread. Season with salt and pepper.
Form into small balls.
Heat 1/4 cup oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and saute the meatballs until browned.
Remove from pan and set aside.
In large saucepan heat remaining oil and fry onions until golden.
Add meatballs, raisins, cinnamon, honey and water.
Bring to a boil and reduce heat and simmer for about one hour, check seasoning and add salt and pepper before serving.

Helpful Tips:
This is my version of an authentic dish from Morocco. It captures the flavors of middle eastern cookery and is delicious served over couscous or wrapped in pita bread.
